Vieux Carré Matinées are now showing every Tuesday–Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The program opens with a brief tour of Le Petit Theatre, the nation’s oldest continuously operated little community theatre. Following the tour, patrons will have an opportunity to view one of 10 films, many of which were produced in part by The Collection. Each film addresses a different aspect of the region, including the Battle of New Orleans, Creole cooking, and visual artists of New Orleans. Both the tour and the films are free and open to the public.

Ancestors and Descendants: Ancient Southwestern America at the Dawn of the Twentieth Century will be the first comprehensive exhibition of nineteenth century photography, Southwestern artifacts and archival research from the George Hubbard Pepper Native American Archive at Tulane University.
In collaboration with Tulane's Middle American Research Institute (MARI) and Latin American Library (LAL), the exhibition offers a special glimpse of the Tulane archive featuring 150 objects from Pepper's personal Native American art collection as well as 140 photographic images. Pepper, a museum ethnologist and scholar, used textiles, pottery, baskets, and other Pueblo and Navajo paraphernalia as visual complements to his lectures. Many of the images and the objects in Ancestors and Descendants have never been published or seen by the general public since 1924.

www.neworleansburlesquefest.com Location: Harrah’s New Orleans and the House of Blues Over 60 burlesque performers from across the USA and Canada will hit the stages of Harrah’s New Orleans and the House of Blues providing the most entertaining, classy, and risqué showcases you’ll ever see. These shining stars come from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, Dallas, Austin, Atlanta, New York City, St. Louis, Key West, Vancouver, and Toronto– to name a few cities represented. The highlight of the festival is the Queen of Burlesque competition where the most talented and glamorous burlesque dancers perform with the accompaniment of a live traditional jazz band. A panel of celebrity judges will select the title-holder on September 18th in the theatre at Harrah’s New Orleans. Fun and educational daytime activities for performers and enthusiasts of burlesque are held on Saturday and Sunday. We have burlesque workshops for beginners, as well as established performers. On Sunday afternoon, a panel discussion with today’s superstars of burlesque, and the legends of Bourbon Street burlesque will take place at the Westin Canal Place Hotel.
